Bob Gerbino was a teacher, coach and
athletic director in the Seaford School District
for a total of 30 years.  While his
accomplishments were many, it was in the
wrestling arena that Mr. Gerbino excelled and
made himself a statewide reputation.  He
established wrestling as a varsity sport at
Seaford High School in 1956 and became
known as the "Father of Seaford Wrestling".

Bob coached hundreds of Seaford wrestlers
during his 20 years at the helm capturing 12
team championships.  As head coach, he
developed one of the best wrestling programs
in Nassau County.  His teams demonstrated
excellence on and off the mat.  Home matches
became a community event where an
enthusiastic crowd commonly experienced
"Standing Room Only" accommodations.

On February 3, 1998, Mr. Gerbino succumbed
to Alzheimer's disease after a courageous
fourteen-year battle.  Even after his passing,
Coach Gerbino continues to influence many
individuals he taught and coached at Seaford
High School.  In 2000, Coach Gerbino was
voted Seaford Wrestling's: "Man of the
Century".

The Annual Bob Gerbino Night Wrestling
Match commemorates Mr. Gerbino's many
accomplishments and contributions to Seaford
High School and the sport of wrestling.
